Signs of an Early Spring

This was our third winter up here and it was by far the mildest. Flowers already and somehow we are way behind on pruning and clearing from the recent wind storms.

Here are some shots of the first flowers: Star Magnolia, Daffodil and Violets.

If you live on a rural property, you know this is your reminder to get the pruning done you should have done in February or at least that’s how we tend to take it.

Speaking of which, one of the things we’re going to have to prune are 2 bird cherry trees that hang over the pasture because cherry leaves, especially when they dry, are chock full of cyanide so they are a danger to the goats. The hard part will be doing it and not damaging the pasture fence but it’ll be great to have the cherry wood on hand for handles and carving.

Of course, the other thing the first signs of spring have brung is a reminder that we are about a month from our first show of the season, the Fargher Lake Bare Tree Sale at Fargher Lake Grange. It’ll be the third weekend in April. If you live in the area, we hope to see you there. In addition to seeing us and our stuff, you can usually get great prices on bare root trees, especially if you get there early.
